Wonder Woman passes Deadpool at the box office, and the Merc with a Mouth has nothing but respect
Warner Bros. Pictures‘ Wonder Woman continues to impress at the box office. This weekend, Gal Gadot‘s DC Comics heroine officially passed the already-impressive domestic take of 20th Century Fox‘s Marvel hero, Deadpool. While Deadpool ultimately took in $363 million domestically, Wonder Woman‘s weekend performance hit $368 with audiences still eager to see the film week after week. Worldwide, Deadpool still has the edge. His debut movie brought in just over $783 million worldwide while Wonder Woman’s total currently stands at $745 million.
Directed by Jenkins, Wonder Woman stars stars Chris Pine (Star Trek), Robin Wright (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Netflix‘s House of Cards), Ewen Bremner (Exodus: Gods and Kings, Snowpiercer), Saïd Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator, Nymphomaniac: Vol. I) and Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead),
A sequel to Deadpool, meanwhile, is currently filming with a storyline that will team Wade Wilson with Josh Brolin‘s Cable and Zazie Beetz‘s Domino. Jack Kesy (The Strain, Baywatch), meanwhile, is attached to play the film’s central villain which, while unconfirmed, is rumored to be Irish mutant Black Tom Cassidy. Japanese actress Shioli Kutsuna and Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) have also joined the film in mystery roles.
Other stars returning from the first Deadpool include Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Stefan Kapicic as the voice of Colossus.
Deadpool 2 is set to debut in theaters on June 1, 2018.
