Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have announced that Godzilla: King of the Monsters has begun principal photography on June 19th. The film stars Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Ken Watanabe and Zhang Yiyi. Michael Dougherty, known for his horror projects (Krampus, Trick ‘r Treat) and screenwriting X-Men 2, is directing the film.

The MonsterVerse is getting bigger and bigger. 2014’s Godzilla led the charge with Kong: Skull Island following suit. The latter had an after-credits scene teasing fans with Monarch discovering silhouette images of giant monsters. As a result, Godzilla enthusiasts will recognize the moth-like creature as Mothra, the Pteranodon-like monster as Rodan, and the three-headed beast as King Ghidorah.

Synopsis: The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

Stranger Things Fans, Unite!

Fans of Netflix’s Stranger Things will be excited about Millie Bobby Brown’s casting. She’ll be playing the daughter of Chandler and Farmiga’s characters. (That’s another whammy for fans of “Bates Motel” and The Conjuring.) Watanabe (The Last Samurai, Batman Begins) and Sally Hawkins will be reprising their roles as specialists from Monarch. The film also stars Bradley Whitford (Get Out), Thomas Middleditch (HBO’s “Silicon Valley”), Charles Dance (HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), O’Shea Jackson Jr (Straight Outta Compton), Aisha Hinds (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).

Dougherty is directing from a script he wrote with Zach Shields.

The film’s main shooting location is Atlanta, Georgia

Godzilla: King of the Monsters clashes into theaters on March 22, 2019.

Here’s hoping that Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah will all have their moment to shine since they’ll be making their Monster-Verse debut in one movie.
